Macular degeneration, also known as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is a disease that deteriorates the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. This condition is a leading cause of vision loss among older adults. It can manifest in two forms: dry (atrophic) and wet (neovascular or exudative). Dry AMD is more common and progresses slowly, while wet AMD can cause rapid vision loss. While there is no cure, treatment options such as dietary supplements, laser therapy, and anti-VEGF injections can slow the progression.
Macular degeneration is when the part of your eye that helps you see details straight in front of you starts to get damaged, especially as you get older, making it hard to see things clearly.
