Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) involves the blockage or abnormal function of the meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oil layer of the eye’s tear film. This condition can lead to dry eye symptoms due to the tear film evaporating too quickly. It is characterized by discomfort, dryness, and sometimes the sensation of a foreign body in the eye. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and may include warm compresses, eyelid scrubs, and, in some cases, prescription medications.

Meibomian gland dysfunction is when the tiny glands in your eyelids get clogged up, making your eyes feel dry and uncomfortable. It’s like when your skin gets dry and needs lotion, but for your eyes.
